design musings, articles and projects by An Michiels

about

Hello,

I am An Michiels, architect on a detour :-)

Until 2009, prior to obtaining my MA Curating Contemporary Design at Kingston University (UK) and making the switch to the world of design, I was working for several years in London as a project architect.

From 2010 to 2012, I initiated design exhibitions, events and workshops in London with Julia Jarvis under the name JJAM Curators Collective. Our ‘Everyday Delights’ project got a nice review on yatzer.com.

End 2011, I returned to my home country Belgium after 14 fantastic years in London. I had the opportunity to join the team behind the Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk. I was taking care of communciation and project management for the 2012, 2014 and 2016 editions and the strategic run-up to 2018. This grand experience opened up a myriad of connections and encounters but came to an end summer 2017, after my decision to work on smaller-scaled projects.

Currently I am based in Antwerp, Belgium and I work on a freelance basis in design, interiors and architecture communication, writing and unique PR projects. Clients include bulthaup belgium and Designregio Kortrijk. Together with Joost Vanhecke, I am also the co-founder of dotsandplanes, check the website to find out more about our curated inspiration tours for (design) professionals.

This site collects my freelance projects and editorial contributions for the likes of De Morgen Magazine (BE), Decors (BE), Elle Magazine (BE), Audi Magazine (BE) and Interior Design (US).
